Dr. Colleen Maxwell

Dr. Maxwell is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Community Health Sciences and Medicine, University of Calgary. She is also a member of the Hotchkiss Brain Institute and the Centre for Health and Policy Studies, University of Calgary and a Fellow with the Institute of Health Economics in Edmonton, Alberta. She received her Masters in Gerontology and PhD in Health Studies from the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences, University of Waterloo. Her post-doctoral training included a fellowship with the Clinical Epidemiology Unit (Élisabeth-Bruyère Health Centre & University of Ottawa) and a clinical research position with the Drugs Directorate of Health Canada. Dr. Maxwell’s primary research interests are in the areas of Pharmacoepidemiology and Aging with a particular focus on Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia, depression and health services and outcomes research. She is also involved in national and international research examining comprehensive geriatric assessment tools and quality indicators for continuing care. Dr. Maxwell is a Health Scholar with the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research (AHFMR) and her work has received financial support from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, AHFMR, Health Canada & Public Health Agency of Canada, MSI Foundation and the Brenda Strafford Foundation Chair in Geriatric Medicine.
