Welcome to the Section of Hematology and Hematologic Malignancies

The Division of Hematology and Hematological Malignancies within the Department of Medicine, University of Calgary, provides comprehensive academic and clinical consultative services at all Alberta Health Services (AHS) Hospitals as well as the Tom Baker Cancer Centre (TBCC).

Section members have active inpatient services and outpatient ambulatory clinics for hematology at the Foothills Medical Centre (FMC) and the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC)Hematology consultations are also performed at the Rockyview General Hospital (RGH).

The Sectional administrative structure involves an overarching Hematology/Bone Marrow Transplant Operations Committee which bridges the Calgary hospitals as well as the TBCC.

The Hematology Zone Section Chief, Dr. Douglas Stewart, is the Clinical Leader of the Hematology/Bone Marrow Transplant Program, while the administrative leader is Lorraine Harrison. Three main subcommittees report to the Hematology/Bone Marrow Transplant Operations Committee including the Blood and Marrow Transplant Clinical Advisory Committee (led by Dr. James Russell), Hematology Tumor Group Executive Committee (led by Dr. Andrew Daly), and the Benign Hematology Advisory Committee (led by Dr. Karen Valentine).
