About Us News
Welcome Message from the Division Head

The Division of Infectious Diseases is an academic division providing specialist consultative care to inpatients at all adult acute care sites and to inpatients in a variety of venues including:
  •   Home Parenteral Therapy Progra (HPTP) clinics at all sites

  •   Southern Alberta (HIV) Clinic

  •   Calgary STD Clinic

  •   Adult Cystic Fibrosis Clinic

  •   General Infectious Diseases Clinic at the  Rockyview Hospital

In addition, our members are involved in activities related to Infection Prevention and Control, diagnostic microbiology, critical care medicine, antibiotic formulary management, clinical informatics and medical administration.

We are active participants in the education of new physicians at all training levels as per the educational mandate of the University Of Calgary Faculty Of Medicine and the Calgary Health Region

We are actively involved in a myriad of research activities in Infectious Diseases, Microbiology and Public Health, through the III Institute of the Faculty of Medicine.

The clinic is preparing for a major move to the new Sheldon Chumir Health Centre, slated for summer 2008. This will involve recoding all of our patient records (90,000 of them) to fit better with the regional Medical Records system.

News from Infection Prevention & Control

The Ministry of Health has  released several new IPC standards, and the IPC program is endeavoring to meet these.

Prevention and control of MRSA is a major initiative in the urban hospitals for the coming year.

Hand hygiene promotion in the coming year will include an online training module and a contest to see which patient care unit or clinic can make the best hand hygiene commercial to be posted on YouTube. The prizes will be fabulous!
