Carried 24 hours a day by a volunteer resident who is there to listen as a peer and friend and triage to appropriate resources if necessary.

If resident does not want to talk to another resident, the office has a confidential list of physicians (mostly psychiatrists) willing to see residents.

House staff Well Being Committee

Has resident and faculty representatives.  This is a proactive committee mandated to examine the professional and personal issues that impact on house staff well-being, advocacy may be related to work, academic or personal stressors, sponsors seminars (ie. Practice management, billing, stress management), visiting speakers (topics: breaking bad news, medical marriages), collects information on how residents are doing in the University of Alberta system, flash points, etc.  Members are available for consultation/help with residents and their families.

AMA Physician and Family Support Program: 1-877-767-4637 (1-877-SOS-4MDS)

Assistance for residents and immediate family members, no automatic College of Physicians and Surgeons involvement, available 24 hours a day.

Calgary Regional Health Authority Employee Assistance Program

For residents and immediate family members.  For any personal problems that affect home or work life including, but not limited to, marital or family problems, alcohol or drug use, depression, anxiety or stress, legal and financial issues, career or work related concerns, etc.  A confidential and free service.  Provided by Wilson Banwell.  Only broad demographic information is released to the CHA.  Residents may access these numbers 24 hours a day: 1-800-268-5211
