PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

During the three years of core Internal Medicine Training:

  • PGY1: 4-5 blocks MTY, i block Medicine Consult Service, 1-2 blocks CCU, 6 block selectives.

  • PGY2: 1-2 blocks MTU (senior resident role), 1 block Medicine Clinics, 0-1 block CCU, 2 blocks ICU, remaining blocks as selectives or electives.

  • PGY3: 3-4 blocks MTU (depending on number completed in prior year), 1 block CCU, 1 block ICU, 1 block Medicine clinics.

ACADEMIC HALF DAY

  • During the R1 year, there is a lecture series aimed at providing teaching about urgent medical issues commonly encountered with each subspecialty, as well as the JAMA rational clinical exam series and EBM. Lecture generally take about 2 hours per half-day, leaving the remainder for resident research pursuits.

  • R2 and R3 half days consist of about one hour of lecture per week, and are generally tailored to the wants of the current resident group.

RESEARCH

  • It is expected that each resident will present a research project (which may consist of a case report, QI project, resident education project, literature review, research proposal for longitudinal completion or completed project) at the annual Residents Research Day in early May each year.
