Academic Report Online

One of the strategic priorities that we are working on is transitions from the STAR online report to the University of Calgary’s Academic Report Online (ARO); the reasons for doing so are many, but include the fact that we pay upwards of $50,000 per annum for licensing of the STAR software (more if we need software upgrades) whereas the ARO is free, and fully supported by the Office of Faculty Development. Moreover, many of us needed to complete both the STAR and the ARO, which was a doubly painful process and, from a Departmental perspective, the funds would be more valuable going towards funding advanced fellowship training of one of our outstanding young residents, than to a licensing agreement. Angela Hunter has been leading the transition for the Department of Medicine, and she is due great credit for getting us this far to date. We are hiring a clerk to manually enter all of the data currently in your STAR reports over the next 2-3 months, so that you won’t have to do it and while we anticipate a fairly smooth transition, we ask for your patience as we migrate over to the ARO – it’s unlikely to be perfect in this first year, but we will continue to work with the Office of Faculty Development until it is.
