Dr. Jennifer MacRaeThe Department of Medicine is pleased to announce that Dr. Jennifer MacRae will be taking on the role of Nephrology Section Head and Medical Director of Alberta Kidney Care South as of Sept. 1, 2021.

Dr. Jennifer MacRae MSC MD FRCPC, is a Professor within the Department of Medicine and the Department of Cardiac Sciences at the University of Calgary, and a member of the Libin Institute. Dr. MacRae is a McGill University alumni and has a Master’s of Science in Cardiovascular Physiology from the University of Calgary. She is currently the Kidney Health Section Lead for the Medicine Strategic Clinical Network, and has leveraged her previous leadership roles within Alberta Kidney Care South to develop innovative clinical programs focused on improving the quality of life for people on dialysis.

Dr. MacRae’s clinical and research interests include improving the experience during the transition to dialysis, supporting people in their choice for home dialysis and incorporating exercise to reduce symptom burden and improve cardiac function. She is a firm believer in health and wellness who lives to workout, walk her dogs and hang out with her kids and husband.

The Department would also like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Dan Muruve for all his many and important contributions to the Section of Nephrology and to the Department over his tenure as Nephrology Section Head. Starting this fall, Dr. Muruve will be shifting more of his focus back onto his research and towards the direct clinical care of Albertans with kidney disease.
