Dr. Erika DempseyThe Department of Medicine is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Erika Dempsey as the new Vice Chair of Telehealth Medicine, effective July 1, 2020.

Dr. Erika Dempsey is a Geriatric Medicine physician and a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary. She completed her medical degree at the University of Alberta and her training in internal medicine and geriatric medicine at the University of British Columbia.

Dr. Dempsey has an interest in education with roles as the co-chair for the Neurosciences, Aging and Special Senses (Course 5) at the Cumming School of Medicine and is the Associate Program Director for the Geriatric Medicine Residency Training Program.

She has diverse clinical interests, including osteoporosis and is the medical co-lead for the Fracture Liaison Service in Alberta.

Her clinical practice involves inpatient consultation at the Peter Lougheed Centre and outpatient clinic at the Seniors Health Clinic. Recently, Dr. Dempsey also led the quality improvement program for the three Calgary Seniors Health Clinics.

Dr. Dempsey will be working with the Medical and AHS staff to support the provision of high quality, safe medical care through AHS approved telehealth services and platforms. Virtual Care, e-Advice, and Specialist Link are among the telehealth platforms, and the Department of Medicine will support efforts toward training, quality improvement, and development of best practices.
